How to Vote

There are three ways to vote in Maryland:

(
1) Mail-in Ballot

Any registered voter in Maryland may vote by mail-in ballot. You must first complete and return a Mail-in ballot application.  You can also get the application by texting VBM to 77788.
You may request a mail-in ballot for the current election cycle or all future elections. Mail-in ballots are mailed to voters approximately six weeks before the election.

ERROR IN 2026 PRIMARY ELECTION MAIL-IN BALLOT MAILING

Due to an error in the distribution of mail-in ballots, some voters received the incorrect party ballot for the Primary Election. This error affects only voters who were mailed a ballot before May 14, 2026. All affected voters will be mailed a replacement ballot, including those who did receive the correct party ballot mailed within this timeframe. Replacement ballots will be mailed to these voters starting the week of May 18, 2026 and distribution of those ballots should be completed by May 29, 2026. Please complete and return the replacement ballot even if you have already returned the ballot you received earlier. The Maryland Board of Elections will only count the replacement ballots. For further information, visit the Maryland State Board of Elections website: https://elections.maryland.gov/elections/2026/2026_replacement_mib.html

Once you receive your ballot:
  • Complete your ballot promptly.
  • Sign and date the Voter's Oath on the return envelope.
  • Return your completed ballot promptly:
    • via the secure drop boxes located across the county, or
    • via U.S. mail, or
    • to an Early Voting location during Early Voting, or
    • at your assigned precinct polling place on Election Day.
Note that due to U.S. Post Office changes in postmarking, we recommend that once Early Voting begins, you return your mail-in ballot at one of the 14 Early Voting centers or deposit it in one of the 58 mail-in ballot collection boxes across Montgomery County.

Get more information at Montgomery County Board of Elections.

(2) Vote in person during Early Voting

Voters may vote in person at any of 14 Early Voting centers in Montgomery County during the early voting period.
  • To find an early voting location, text EV and your ZIP code to 77788.
  • Public Transit is available to reach all 14 centers.
  • Early Voting Centers are open each day from 7am-8pm.
  • First-time voters may register to vote and vote the same day at Early Voting Centers provided they bring identification, including proof of residency.  Go to The Registration Process for the list of documents that provide proof of residency.

(3) Vote in person on Election Day at your assigned precinct polling place

IMPORTANT:
On Election Day, go to your assigned precinct polling place to vote on Election Day. If you go to the wrong location, you may still vote, but you will have to vote by provisional ballot.

  • Go to Polling Place Lookup to find your assigned precinct location.
  • Polling places on Election Day are open from 7am to 8pm. If you are in line at 8pm you will be permitted to vote.
  • First-time voters may register to vote, declare a party affiliation and vote the same day provided they bring identification, including proof of residency.  Go to The Registration Process for the list of documents that provide proof of residency.
Keep Your Voter Registration Up to Date
