The potential for artificial intelligence (AI)-generated "deepfakes" (fake images or videos of people or events), usually for malicious purposes or to disseminate false information to affect election outcomes, has alarmed a number of observers. In response, experts and organizations have suggested a range of strategies. Will they be enough to protect our elections and democracy?
